BioMom was six-months pregnant with me when her and my father were attacked on the FDR Drive in NYC. They were savagely beaten for being a biracial couple. Dad was in a coma for about a month. My mother nearly froze to death after men threw her in the east river, January 1970. Three months later, despite their attempt, I was born. I was dope-sick at birth. Both of my parents shot dope. I was the youngest of nine experiments in a two-bedroom cage. I've buried everyone; all eight siblings and both parents (not to mention all the friends. I too shot dope for quite some time (age 13-35), but I'm over that now. It wasn't easy...
The hardest loss was my brother, Benny. He came home in the winter of 1984; sick with AIDS. We, not knowing what we know now, refused him entrance. He kied in an abandoned car near Coney Island, Brooklyn; most likely from freezing to death. I've been through it all; jail, dope, crime, violence, blah, blah, blah...
Poetry saved my life! In 2004; I was preparing to overdose. I stopped just short of pushing the plunger when I watched an episode of Def Poetry. Poets saved me with sincerity and emotion, truth and passion. I only wish I can do the same for someone, anyone.
Since 2005 I've accomplished more with my life than the 35 years previous; Grand Slam finalist at Louder Arts and The Bowery Poetry Club in 07 (taking 3rd at the National Poetry Slam)4-time Semi Finalist and The Nuyorican Poets' Cafe in 06, and featuring and winning slams in over 20 cities now. I've done workshops and features in rehabs and schools, universities and theaters. Tara Betts, Mahogany L Browne and Carlos Andres Gomez, Ainsley Burrows and Kelly Tsai...(this list goes on)
My writings are about my experiences; poetry, prose and some essays. I also have excerpts of my book of memoirs that I can only pray get published someday.
